Famous places to go and see in Kyoto and Osaka |
Arashiyama (Kyoto)
Heian has long been a famous spot for viewing cherry blossoms and autumn leaves. Togetsu Bridge, which spans the flowing waters of the Kakegawa River running through Arashiyama, is the symbol of Arashiyama. Togetsu Bridge stands in the middle; upstream is the Ohi River, and downstream is the Katsura River. A quiet walk from Arashiyama to Sagano while enjoying the scenery is definitely recommended. |
Sagano (Kyoto)
Sagano has beautiful nature as wel as a rich history. If you start exploring the bamboo grove that begins at the Nonomiya shrine, you will see scenery that seems right out of a postcard or painting. |
Heian Shrine (Kyoto)
You can visit a variety of cultural institutions located in the heart of Kyoto, such as the Kyoto National Museum and the Museum of Modern Art, on the left and right after passing under the Otori Gate. |
Osaka Castle (Osaka)
Osaka is very well known for Hideyoshi Toyotomi and his Osaka Castle. There are excellent views from the top floor, a golden tea room, and don't miss the chance to try on a traditional helmet and tabard. |
Tsuttenkaku (Osaka)
Osaka's well-known tower. The famous "Billiken" statue located on the observation deck is known as a god of luck and love and is known to grant wishes and good luck. |
Dotonbori (Osaka)
Known for it's famous "Glico Running Guy" sign and rich food culture. After traditional Japanese stage plays flourished during the Edo period, the city again thrived as the "world's kitchen" -- a center of food culture.. All sorts of restaurants and shops line the streets, making it a city always with something new and fun to offer. |

Student's Voice: Language School and Home Stay Experience |
This is not my first time to come to Japan. I've been here three times. This time, I'm staying with a family in Japan on a home stay. It's a really great experience -- I am learning about Japanese culture and how to speak Japanese.
My host family welcomed me like a member of the family, and it's almost like I'm one of their daughters. I really am grateful to my host family for their kindness.
At school, I study Japanese through speaking, listening, reading and writing. I especially like conversation class -- it's my favorite subject. There are several teachers in each class. Every day, I can speak lots of Japanese with my teachers and classmates.
Being able to speak Japanese with my friends and teachers every day while home staying really is a great experience for me. Thanks to my experience here, I feel my Japanese has gotten even better than I thought it would.
Ms.Low, Geok Hew(Malaysia)
