Osaka is exciting in September!
The Kishiwada Danjiri Festival is not your average festival! If you would like to see hundreds of young men in traditional festival garb running at top speed in and around the curving streets of Osaka carrying huge shrine floats, this is the festival for you!
It has a history going back more than 300 years and features 34 i`sacred floatsi^ called danjiri. They have intricate wood carvings and are quite heavy. A team of men carries it and try (often unsuccessfully) not to crash into anything on the way. At night, the festival offers a little different atmosphere as lantern floats a paraded by.
The Kishiwada Danjiri Festival is an event not to be missed. Check it out! |
